Frequently Asked Questions for Equine PEMF Sessions

What happens during a PEMF session?

The PEMF device sends a pulsing magnetic field through a soft, flexible rubber coil up to 16 inches deep into the body to the cellular level. As the coil is placed on or over the body, the magnetic pulses are adjusted to a very comfortable level. It is safe, non-invasive and no medication or sedation is required. Horses LOVE PEMF therapy! The magnetic wave effects only the cells that have a low level of charge. Because of this, PEMF is very effective in detecting the location of the damaged cells or areas of soreness as only the damaged cells show pulsing or twitching.

How long does a session take?

Normal full body sessions are 45-60 minutes. Longer sessions can be arranged for chronic areas of soreness or to help with injuries.

Why pulse the entire body when the problem is in one area?

PEMF creates a systemic response by increasing the overall oxygen level in the blood which acts like a “Turbo-Charger” for the WHOLE body. Because of this, many issues, not just the targeted ones, also experience improvement. By increasing the blood oxygen and circulation of blood in the whole body, the weakened area continues to be helped as super oxygenated blood from the rest of the body continues to flow through the area (for up to 72 hours). Also, keep in mind that everything is connected within the body through fascia tissue. By pulsing the entire body, you are not missing any potential ailments that could be a cause or result of the known problem.

Can PEMF sessions be done right at a show or event?

Absolutely! A horse can be worked immediately after a session. PEMF helps horses to loosen up and relax at a show, relieves their pain & stiffness and helps them recover faster.

When will the results of PEMF sessions be seen or felt?

Results are usually immediate. Some riders have noticed a difference within the first couple steps their horse takes after their first PEMF session. Some chronic issues may take more sessions for noticeable results, but there is always some positive effect from a session. As the blood is oxygenated and circulation is increased, improvement will continue to improve for up to 72 hours after a full body session.

How long will the results last?

Results can last any where from a day to weeks or permanently, depending on the problem and its severity. Many soreness's can be relieved with 1 to 3 sessions. For most performance horses at a show, great benefits of increase range of motion and improved performance are achieved with 3 sessions. More chronic soreness or injuries take longer but the general rule of thumb is that an injury, like a torn suspensory, can be healed in about half the normal time it would take without PEMF treatment.
